Rhythm Challenge!
Time Travel Crazy!
Create a rhythmic piece of music that changes the time signature in every single bar! Think about:
How will you keep consistency throughout the changing time signatures? Will you have a rhythmic pattern that keeps returning?
How many different time signatures will you use in your piece? Will you alternate between two different time signatures or experiment with lots and lots of different whacky time signatures?
Take note of how the different time signatures feel. Do the time signatures sound like a march or a waltz? A dance or a lullaby? How will this affect the flow of your piece?
Drumming Mad!
Create a piece of music for un-pitched percussion! Think about:
How you will keep rhythmic interest in the piece? Will you develop one rhythmic pattern or include lots of different ideas in your piece?
Will you build silence and rests into your piece of music or will you keep the rhythmic drive going continually throughout?
Think about the different rhythmic combinations and groups in your piece. Are there rhythmic patterns that work well with each other? Or are there rhythmic patters that clash and work against each other?
Continue the Groove!
Create a piece of music using this rhythm! Think about:
How will you adapt this rhythm to suit the style of music you'd like to write?
Will you use pitched or un-pitched insturments? Or would you like to use a mixture of both?
How are you going to develop this rhythm to keep it interesting? Will you change the speed? Add new rhythmic elements? Or change up the time signature to add a new feel?
